Accessibility in the digital space has been a legal requirement since this year. With the new Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG), which will apply from June 28, 2025, many companies will be obliged to make their websites accessible. A key element of this is the use of ALT texts, also known as alt tags. This applies in particular to operators of online stores and websites with electronic services.
ALT texts, also known as alternative texts, describe the content of images and graphics on a website. They are displayed if an image cannot be loaded - and are particularly essential for screen readers that read websites to blind or visually impaired people. Missing or meaningless ALT texts represent a digital barrier - and will be against the law in future.
Every image that is visible on your online store or company website must be provided with alternative text by June 28, 2025. The first step is therefore to identify which images are affected and whether meaningful ALT texts already exist. Many common tools find irrelevant images or only capture part of the problematic content - our tool, on the other hand, reliably scans all relevant elements:-
- <img> tags without ALT text
- Empty ALT fields
- CSS background images (often overlooked)
- dynamically loaded content
- iFrames (taking CORS protection into accout)
This Tool is very reliable and gives you a complete overview in just a few minutes - even for very large websites with hundreds or thousands of landing pages. After that, all you have to do is add the missing ALT texts and enter them. If your company needs advice on the previous or further steps, we will be happy to help.
